‘Idol’s Eye’: Sylvester Stallone to Replace Robert De Niro in Olivier Assayas’ Heist Thriller

Fresh off his Academy Award nomination for last year’s “Creed,” Sylvester Stallone appears to be moving even further from the “Expendables” end of the spectrum. The actor is replacing Robert De Niro in Olivier Assayas‘ “Idol’s Eye,” an upcoming heist thriller from the “Personal Shopper” and “Clouds of Sils Maria” auteur, reports Screen Daily.

Stallone will appear alongside Robert Pattinson and Rachel Weisz as Tony Accardo, a mafia don in Chicago. Pattinson plays a thief who steals a blue diamond from Stallone’s character, whom we can safely assume doesn’t take kindly to the transgression.

“Idol’s Eye” was first announced in 2014, but was put on hold after its original financing fell through. In an Indiewire interview held shortly after that happened, Assayas called the ordeal “a long painful horror story. Let’s just say that did it put me off being involved with these kinds of projects in any kind of way in the foreseeable future.” All’s well that ends well, it seems.
