Atlantic Salmon: Lost at Sea

Logline: “Atlantic Salmon – Lost at Sea” takes the viewer on an epic journey through the oceanic kingdom of the Atlantic Salmon – king of fish – in an attempt to unravel the mystery of their life at sea.

Elevator Pitch:
Populations of salmon are plummeting to critical levels, even going extinct in some southern rivers. Despite conservation efforts worldwide, populations continue to fall. The cause is mortality at sea. For the very first time, through advanced DNA technology and acoustic tagging, scientists are able to track the salmon from the rivers, through the estuaries and into the vast North Atlantic and back again in search of an answer. We traveled to Scotland and Ireland, Canada and Iceland and Greenland and and sea to show the vast kingdom of this King of Fish and to solve the mystery.

Production Team:
Producer/Director : Deirdre Brennan
Director of Photography: Rick Rosenthal
Cameraman (Ireland): Cian de Buitlear
Scientific Advisor: Ken Whelan

Former credits:
“Bermuda’s Treasure Island”
“Sceillig and Bermuda, A Last Refuge”

About the Film:
Salmon are dying in greater numbers than ever before in history. The cause is in the ocean and no one knows why. My passion for telling stories of species on the brink led me to this mystery of declining Atlantic salmon populations. I made a film about one of the rarest seabirds in the world, the Bermuda Petrel to raise awareness about these fascinating creatures and to highlight the work being done to save them.

Current Status: Filming is completed and raising the last piece of the edit budget to complete the film.
