Robert Rodriguez's El Rey Network Renews Its First Scripted Drama, 'From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series'

Robert Rodriguez‘s cable channel El Rey Network has ordered a second season of Robert Rodriguez’s television show “From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series.” Was there ever any doubt?

The ongoing “From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series” is the filmmaker’s first TV project, and it’s also the first scripted original to come from El Rey, which launched in December. This renewal comes early in the show’s 13-episode first season run — the third episode, directed by Eduardo Sánchez (of “The Blair Witch Project”) and guest starring Adrianne Palicki (who acted alongside series lead D.J. Cotrona “G.I. Joe: Retaliation”), aired last night.

Based on Rodriguez’s 1996 film, which was written by and stars Quentin Tarantino, “From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series” has been streaming as a Netflix original outside of the U.S., a deal which will continue in the second season. In the series, Cotrona and Zane Holtz play criminal siblings Seth and Richie Gecko, and Jesse Garcia, Eiza Gonzalez, Wilmer Valderrama, Jake Busey, Don Johnson, Madison Davenport, Lane Garrison, Robert Patrick and Brandon Soo Hoo are also part of the cast. Rodriguez, Carlos Coto, John Fogelman, Diego Gutierrez and Cristina Patwa are the executive producers.

“This is a truly unique property and one that has really resonated for viewers,” said Rodriguez in the announcement. “It has been a joy to bring these characters back to life and have the opportunity to take our storytelling to a whole new place. We look forward to going back into production later this year and are excited about raising the bar even higher in season two.”
