2015 Emmy Predictions: Best Supporting Actress in a TV Movie/Limited Series

2015 Emmy Predictions: Best Supporting Actress TV Movie/Limited Series

Mo’Nique may have an Oscar, but Sarah Paulson has a “Horror Story.” Every argument has a counter — no matter how silly — when it comes to predicting who should and will win an acting award, and you better believe HBO and FX will have loads of reasons why their candidate is the most deserving. The two cable networks have been caught in a heated battle for prestigious prominence over the last few years, and this is just one of many races they’ll be fighting hard to win. For Paulson, this marks the third nomination she’s received for FX’s anthology franchise, and she’s yet to win. Some may think that makes her this year’s favorite, but it’s hard to tell who will come out on top when these two networks collide.

HBO will likely build up Mo’Nique’s recent claims that she was blackballed after her Oscar win, building sympathy for a woman whose performance can speak for itself. Mo’Nique’s turn in “Bessie” was as subdued and focused as her performance in “Precious” was loud and out of control. If voters are looking for acting to extremes, they may side with the HBO star.

Of course, there are other options, as well. Two more “American Horror Story” veterans are up for the award, and HBO has another entrant in Zoe Kazan, who snagged a nod for “Olive Kitteridge.” The only non-FX or -HBO contender is Regina King for ABC’s “American Crime,” which may very well strike the right tone with the TV Academy. Still, it appears to be a two-woman race, and only one network is going to be pleased with the result.

Below are predictions for Outstanding Performance by a Supporting Actor in a TV Movie or Limited Series from both Indiewire Awards Editor Peter Knegt and TV Critic Ben Travers.
