‘Archer’ Wins First Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program
After three consecutive nominations, “Archer” has finally been crowned the best animated program on TV.

The long-running FX comedy took home the trophy Sunday night during the second ceremony for the Creative Arts Emmy Awards. It had been nominated the two years prior, but this marks the beloved spy spoof’s first win.
And we really only have one more thing to say about that:
After failing to land a nomination for Outstanding Animated Program in its first three seasons, FX decided to submit the series for Outstanding Comedy Series instead. While the bid failed, “Archer” got its first nod for Animated Program the following year. With a win in its pocket just two years later, it seems clear the strategy worked in spreading awareness among TV Academy members.
“Archer” also won four consecutive Critics Choice Awards for Outstanding Animated Program between 2012 and 2015.
Seasons 5 — the first season to score an Emmy nod — saw a significant shift toward serialized storytelling. “Archer: Vice” flexed the comedy’s creative muscles and established a precedent for experimentation Reed has kept up in following years. Season 7 took it to an extreme, ending with a shocking twist we dare not spoil for anyone yet to catch up.

The Creative Arts Emmy Awards honor outstanding artistic and technical achievement in a variety of television program genres, guest performances in weekly series, as well as exceptional work in the animation, reality and documentary categories. This year, there are two ceremonies being held to hand out all the awards — on Saturday, September 10 and Sunday, September 11. FXX will air the highlights on Saturday, September 17 at 8pm, and the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards will be televised live the following evening, Sunday, September 18 at 8pm.
