It seems like more and more inspirations for “Stranger Things” are being discovered every day, and Wednesday’s notable — and confirmed — influences is none other than David Lynch. And he could factor into the series’ finale, too.

“We love David Lynch,” co-creator Matt Duffer said during the series’ TCA panel. “We’re big David Lynch fans. […] So many of these guys, we grew up watching and idolizing. They were big influences on us. They’re part of our DNA now, I think.”

“What connects Lynch to Spielberg is […] how ordinary people encounter extraordinary — or strange — things,” Ross Duffer added. “That was really the threat that connected all of our favorite things in the world.”

“People like David Lynch and Clive Barker […] showed how weird that stuff is,” Matt said. “If you encountered something like another dimension, it would be beyond comprehension. So [seeing their vision of it] is why this stuff is still with us.”

But the topic of the day was whether or not Season 2 was coming, a question Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos addressed before the “Stranger Things” panel began.

“We’re letting the show breathe,” Sarandos said. “We always want to take some time, to be thoughtful about the process.”

Many critics expected a Season 2 confirmation to arrive with the slew of other Netflix renewals announced Wednesday, but it never did. Sarandos also cited that people were still discovering the show.

That didn’t stop the Duffer brothers from discussing what could be coming.

“We have answers for all this,” Ross said, speaking to the open-ended nature of the first season. “Hopefully, as much of it is resolved by the time we end so it feels like a satisfying whole.”

That being said, the creators also gave themselves room for a little mystery whenever the hit new series wraps.

“David Lynch is very esoteric,” Matt said. “He doesn’t explain anything.”

“It’s about giving enough so the audience is satisfied,” Ross added.
