TV certainly isn’t starved for adaptations of crime novels, stories about L.A., or series based on popular films. Nevertheless, CBS is going to try to make a show that combines all three.

According to a Variety report, “L.A. Confidential” is the latest film-to-TV series in the works, again on network television. The film version went on to plenty of awards success, and despite that prestige pedigree, it looks like this will be on broadcast rather than the CBS All Access platform.

Based on the James Ellroy novel and the 1997 film from the late Curtis Hanson, this new series will look to follow the same basic story threads: a trio of police officers in the 1950s dive into a string of Hollywood murders, each with their own distinct approaches to justice. In the middle of their separate investigations, a mysterious woman may know more than she lets on.

This time around, “L.A. Confidential” is being developed by “Gotham” writer Jordan Harper, set to serve as both a writer and executive producer on the new project. This latest attempt comes almost two decades after a Kiefer Sutherland-starring pilot of the same name was filmed in 1999, but never made it to series. No word on any casting for this latest version.
