Sundance 2011 | Rounding Up iW’s Coverage, Neatly Packaged
The 2011 Sundance Film Festival may be, as described by one person we overheard, the event that brought independent film “out of the recession.” Even before the festival began, indieWIRE was reporting on deals and acquisitions that continued through the entire 10-day event. One night during the week, indieWIRE abruptly exited a party and rushed to get online on the floor of a venue hallway to post a pickup; even during Saturday night’s Awards Show, news of another buy came in.
At the heart of all the activity were the films themselves. indieWIRE invited all the filmmakers in Sundance’s U.S., World Competitions and NEXT sections to participate in pre-festival interviews and collected over 50. Of course, there were multiple daily reviews and indieWIRE expanded its Futures column to spotlight up-and-comers during the first full week of the festival. criticWIRE returned as well with a round-up of critics’ grades from a broad spectrum of publications. And photos taken at the fest flooded iPOP, while videos shot on red carpets and after parties became part of the coverage.
