If 2013 was the year of streaming platforms making their entrance into the original programming game, 2014 is looking to be the one in which consoles do the same. In December, Microsoft’s Xbox greenlit its first show, a series of docs about the digital revolution, the first of which is being directed by Zak Penn (“Incident at Loch Ness”).

And now Sony’s PlayStation Network is kicking off its first slate of originals with “Powers,” an hour-long drama based on the graphic novel by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming. The comic book series is about a pair of homicide detectives who investigates cases involving people with superhuman abilities — “powers.”

Novelist and comic book writer Charlie Huston penned the pilot for the project, which was initially in development at FX — the network actually shot a pilot in 2011. The first season will run 10 episodes and will be produced by Sony Pictures Television and Circle of Confusion. Bendis, Oeming and Michael Dinner will executive produce the series alongside Huston, Remi Aubuchon (“Caprica”) and David Engel, David Alpert and Lawrence Mattis of Circle of Confusion.

While Playstation users are already able to access streaming services like Netflix, HBO Go, Mubi and Hulu Plus via their console, Sony has also launched its own subscription service, PlayStation Plus, which includes access to a selection of games and early or exclusive access to betas of others, cloud storage and more.
