Exclusive: Sarasota Film Festival Unveils Stylish New Poster

Last October, the Sarasota Film Festival (SFF) and the Ringling College of Art and Design partnered up for a competition that would help create a new design to market and brand the upcoming festival. Through this collaboration, SFF commissioned two weekend-long brainstorming events for students to create several options from which organizers could select two students’ works to represent the 2016 Sarasota Film Festival.

Eight students met with SFF staff to collaborate on fresh new ideas, examine past campaigns and discuss the expectations for the future, and now the winning design has been picked from Gisselle Tirse and Nikelle Mackey. Their designs will be seen on SFF banners on Main Street in Sarasota starting February 20. They will also be seen on all major festival materials such as mailings, playbills and sponsorship ads.

“The Sarasota Film Festival could not be more pleased with the result of our partnership with the Ringling College of Art and Design,” said Mark Famiglio, President of the Sarasota Film Festival, in an official statement. “This is a world-renowned art school and the students presented us with exemplary works to choose from. As we launch this year’s festival we are more excited than ever to bring the best in film to Sarasota.”
“We value the opportunity for our students to work with the Sarasota Film Festival,” added Dr. Larry R. Thompson, president of Ringling College of Art and Design. “Every year the festival brings filmmakers and their films from around the world as well as those made locally to eager film enthusiasts in our region. We are proud to have our students’ work featured as a core element of the festival’s identity and branding.”

The 2016 Sarasota Film Festival runs April 1-10 this year. Check out the winning poster above.
