‘Project X’: Laura Poitras Unveils New Short Film Chronicling Secret NSA Surveillance Site in New York City

Well, this couldn’t be more timely. Innovative documentary and journalism platform Field of Vision has announced the upcoming release of a brand new short film from Laura Poitras and Henrik Moltke that dives deep into the culture of the NSA, with special attention paid to uncovering documents and reports that chronicle how NSA employees operate, along with the purported existence of a top secret surveillance site located in the heart of New York City.

The new short film will be narrated by Rami Malek and Michelle Williams, who “will narrate texts drawn from top secret documents instructing NSA employees on how to travel undercover on U.S. soil and from reports about a top secret NYC surveillance site codenamed TITANPOINTE.” The short is the newest collaboration between Poitras and Moltke, who previously worked together to report on the documents released by Edward Snowden back in 2013.

The information will be accompanied by images of the AT&T “Long Lines” building in Lower Manhattan, described in the film’s marketing materials as a “nuclear-proof skyscraper allegedly housed controversial NSA surveillance programs that targeted the communications of the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and 38 countries, including close U.S. allies such as Germany, Japan, and France.”

“What does it feel like to be a spy? How do they move in the world? What do they tell their families? These are questions Henrik and I want to bring to life in Project X. Rami and Michelle are two of the most daring and exciting actors working today, and it was a thrill to collaborate with them,” said Poitras in a statement about the film’s release.

The film will open at New York’s IFC Center on Friday, November 18, and will screen three times a day for a week at 3:20 PM, 4:50 PM and 5:45 PM before a feature presentation. It will premiere online in the coming weeks.
