In 2007 the sci-fi film “The Man from Earth,” directed by Richard Schenkman and written by Jerome Bixby, was released and quickly became a cult classic. Now, almost a decade later, a sequel titled “The Man From Earth: Holocene,” is in the works with Vanessa Williams, Sterling Knight, Brittany Curran, Carlos Knight and Akemi Look as part of the cast.
The film will also include original lead, David Lee Smith and William Katt and see the return of Schenkman as director.
Details of the sequel’s storyline are being kept secret at the time. “The Man From Earth: Holocene” is based on a story by Schenkman & producer Eric D. Wilkinson. The script is co-written by Schenkman and Bixby’s son, Emerson Bixby, who also serves as executive producer through his Falling Sky Entertainment Banner.

“People have been asking for this since the first movie became a viral phenomenon,” Schenkman said in a Variety article. “Over the years, I’ve spent time developing this property with the ultimate goal of creating a long-form series. I’ve had a lot of help from a number of really talented people, and stunning support from fans all over the world. It’s been a long road, but now that we’re about to start shooting, I could not be more excited.”
Filming for the movie is set to to begin in June, with an expected 2017 release.
The original film told the story of John Oldman (Smith), a man who has lived for a millennia and has to keep moving on to hide his secret. “The Man From Earth” debuted at Comic-Con, then made its way through the festival circuit before it was released by Starz/Anchor Bay Entertainment.
