Top Stories of the Week: Steven Soderbergh and 'The X-Files' Make Big Returns

The Entire Planet is Watching ‘The X-Files‘ Revival, and That’s Terrible News for TV
What it boils down to, though, is what makes a TV show a good candidate for revival and what makes a bad one. To some, the difference may be clear. With “The X-Files,” the ongoing (and unfinished) conspiracy story combined with its (stellar) episodic “monster of the week” fare makes it an excellent candidate for continued success. As long as Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny are back, so are we.

Steven Soderbergh Emerges from Retirement Once and For All — With Channing Tatum
Soderbergh will make his comeback with “Lucky Logan,” according to a story first reported by Variety. No plot synopsis has been revealed, though it is confirmed that Gregory Jacobs is attached to produce and Channing Tatum is on board to star.

Why Everyone’s Wrong About the Second Season of ‘Serial
The second season of the hit podcast has taken a baffling quantity of flack for investigating the saga of Bowe Bergdahl, the soldier who walked off his base in Afghanistan in 2009 and was held by the Taliban for five years. Critics from Slate to the AV Club bemoan the narrative’s lack of any central mystery, arguing that since we know the basic facts of the case — from Bergdahl’s desertion to his return home — the season has no suspense, and cannot possibly live up to the addictive Whodunit nature of its predecessor.

Beware, Horror Fans: ‘The Witch‘ Has Just Been Named an Official ‘Satanic Experience’
The Satanic Temple has just given the movie an official sanction, declaring it as a “transformative Satanic experience.” In celebration, the group will be launching premiere screenings of “The Witch” beginning in New York City on February 10 that will include interactive performances and ritualized pronouncements of a “new Satanic era.”

Plot and Cast Details Emerge for George Clooney‘s Star-Studded ‘Suburbicon’
Scripted by the Coen Brothers and reportedly inspired by the atmosphere of their debut “Blood Simple,” the project is quickly taking shape as both Matt Damon and Julianne Moore are now confirmed to star in it. Clooney and creative partner Grant Heslov (“Argo”) will be producing alongside Silver Pictures’ Joel Silver and Black Bear Pictures’ Teddy Schwarzman.
