Entertainment One has acquired all North American distribution rights to the romantic comedy “Cuban Fury” for a planned 2013 theatrical release in the U.S. and Canada.
Directed by James Griffiths, “Cuban Fury” stars Nick Frost, Rashida Jones, Chris O’Dowd, Ian McShane and Olivia Colman in the story of an overweight man with secret salsa dancing skills and the woman who lights his Latin fire. Nira Park and James Biddle of Big Talk (“Shaun of the Dead,” “Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World”) produced.
“We’re delighted to collaborate with our longtime partner StudioCanal to add ‘Cuban Fury’ to eOne’s exciting North American slate,” said eOne Films U.S. marketing and distribution exec Dylan Wiley. “This charming, well-cast comedy will certainly have audiences shimmying to theatres.”
The film was co-developed and co-financed by StudioCanal and Film4, and co-financed by the BFI. EOne’s Jo Sweby negotiated the deal with StudioCanal’s Harold Van Lier.
Entertainment One continues to ramp up its acquisitions for U.S. theatrical distribution, with recent pickups “The Sweeney,” “Twice Born” and “Passion” heading to theaters soon.
