Watch: Ethan Hawke Talks Stage Fright in ‘Seymour: An Introduction’ Clip

Ethan Hawke has made a career out of deeply felt, contemplative performances, and in a new clip from his first documentary feature, “Seymour: An Introduction,” the actor remains as honest as ever while confessing his anxiety despite nearly 30 years in the business. While it’s surprising and humbling to hear Hawke talk stage fright after so many years of strong performances, including career-best work in Richard Linklater’s “Boyhood” this summer, the clip really pops once the actor gives the floor to his documentary’s subject, piano protege turned teacher Seymour Bernstein.

Bernstein, with his humorous anecdotes and pensive guidance, seems like an intriguing self-help guru in the clip, which is the perfect tease for Hawke’s documentary as it explores the life and lessons of the aging musician. “Seymour” earned critical acclaim at its premiere at the Telluride Film Festival and should play equally as well at showings at the Toronto International Film Festival and the New York Film Festival. Sundance Selects will release the film at an undetermined date.
