Kino Lorber Acquires Rights to Godard’s ‘Goodbye to Language’

Kino Lorber has acquired the North American distribution rights to Jean-Luc Godard‘s latest film, “Goodbye to Language,” a 3D endeavor which premiered in competition at Cannes earlier this year.

“Goodbye to Language,” which was co-winner of the Jury Prize at Cannes, is a fragmented romance film about a married woman and single man. It’s an unusual, experimental film, the first shot in 3D by the French New Wave auteur.
In his review of the film at Cannes, chief film critic Eric Kohn wrote, “the fragmentary moments form a confounding poem on the mass decline of human intelligence.”
In announcing the acquisition, Kino Lorber CEO Richard Lorber said, “To have the honor to release this ecstatically brilliant, career-capping film by the iconic Jean-Luc Godard leaves us appropriately speechless. ‘Goodbye to Language’ is nothing short of a beacon illuminating the future of cinema.”
The film will open New York in late October, at the Film Society of Lincoln Center and IFC Center. A national theatrical rollout will soon follow on 3D screens. A VOD and 3D Blu-ray release is planned for 2015.
