McDonald’s is Actually Bringing Szechuan Sauce Back After 20 Years Thanks to ‘Rick and Morty’

Rick won’t have to wait nine seasons in order to get his hands on same Szechuan sauce. McDonald’s has confirmed via Twitter that it will be bringing back the legendary dipping sauce for one day only after a season-long outcry of support from “Rick and Morty” fans to get the sauce back on the menu.
The sauce entered headlines back on April Fool’s Day when the “Rick and Morty” Season 3 premiere included the following Rick quote: “I’m driven by finding that McNugget sauce. I want that Mulan McNugget Sauce. That’s my series arc, Morty. If it takes nine seasons, I want that McNugget Szechuan sauce.” The official “Rick and Morty” Twitter page leaned into the joke by posting the following message after the premiere’s surprise debut online.
Please God, I don’t ask for much, please let us gain enough cultural influence to force McDonald’s into bringing back that fucking sauce.

Apparently, “Rick and Morty” does have enough cultural influence to force McDonald’s into bringing back the sauce. The fast food chain confirmed Szechuan sauce will return to the menu October 7. The dipping sauce was last sold 20 years ago as a tie-in for the Disney animated movie “Mulan.”

McDonald’s started playing into the joke as early as July, when they sent “Rick and Morty” co-creator Justin Roiland a bottle of the sauce. The company should have known “Rick and Morty” had enough cultural influence after an eBay auction over one vintage sauce packet went up to $14,700 after the episode’s airing. Fans want Szechuan sauce, and now they can finally get it October 7.
