Watch: How Did 'Mad Max: Fury Road' Pull Off Its Mind-Blowing Stunts?

A video compilation of behind-the-scenes footage taken on the set of George Miller’s long-anticipated “Mad Max” reboot, which opens in theaters next week, has quietly surfaced on YouTube.

Uploaded on May 1, the behind-the-scenes video is currently at 7,000 views — which comes as a surprise considering the impressive range of stunt work seen onscreen. Seriously, it’s not unlike watching a Cirque de Soleil show in Vegas, with real people performing impressive feats of strength, flexibility and bravery in front of the camera rather than leaning on post-production to create the illusion. As VFX has improved over the years, it has become exceedingly rare for an action film to shoot live stunts.

It will certainly be interesting to see how the millennials — a generation of filmgoers that have, in large part, been weaned on VFX action films as long as they can remember — react to Miller’s approach.

Warning: the sound for the video isn’t the greatest quality so may we suggest muting the sound on the player and instead, play some classical music in the background. A Tchaikovsky ballet, perhaps?

Mad Max: Fury Road” rolls into theaters May 15. (h/t No Film School)
