Venice Film Festival’s Sala Web to Return with More Remarkable Online Screenings
Online streaming content continues to grow and the Venice Film Festival is more than aware of its presence, announcing today that it will bring back Sala Web for the fourth year. The initiative offers online streaming of films officially selected in the Orrizonti Competition, which displays new trends in film, and the Biennale College, a workshop meant to produce micro-budget features. Last year’s selections included noteworthy films such as Chaitanya Tamhane’s “Court” and Ognjen Sviličić’s “These are the Rules.”
Alberto Barbera, the Venice Film Festival Director, said, “We are committed to making the Mostra even more accessible for anyone interested – from film enthusiasts to film professionals. The aim of Sala Web is to make them discover brand new films that may otherwise have remained beyond their reach. The films from the Orizzonti Competition and Biennale College represent truly inventive trends in the world cinema today: we are willing to find new ways to increase their visibility and develop their audience worldwide. In this context, Sala Web is the platform connecting international audiences with the Venice Film Festival.”
Selections for this year’s group will be made in the upcoming days. Viewers must purchase a ticket for 4€ to see a movie once over a five day period, beginning at 9 pm ET on the day of the film’s festival premiere. Viewers may also purchase a festival pass for 10€ to view five films. Tickets will be available at Sala Web’s homepage starting in mid-August and the films will be hosted on Festival Scope, an online platform for film professionals. The 72nd Venice Film Festival runs September 2-12.
