Music Box Films has acquired all the U.S. distribution rights to “Meru,” excluding broadcast television, which was purchased by Showtime Networks.
Co-directed by Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi, “Meru” takes place in the Himalayas, following three climbers as they attempt the impossible: to climb the never-before-scaled Shark’s Fin on Mount Meru.

Ed Arentz and William Schopf of Music Box Films expressed their excitement about the film in a press release issue today, calling it “a brilliantly told, spine-tingling adventure story that is also a moving testimony to a unique brotherhood.”

Music Box Films plans to release “Meru” in theaters later this summer so that it may qualify for the 2016 Academy Awards.
