Syfy Renews 'Helix' Second Season

The Syfy drama “Helix” has been renewed for a second season, with a planned premiere in winter 2015. The announcement comes just in time for the first season finale tonight at 10pm.

It’s not much of a surprise, given the show’s success: since its premiere in January, the show has ranked as the top cable scripted entertainment program in the time period, with an average of 2.1 million total viewers, pushing Syfy to the number two slot for cable entertainment networks among adults in the coveted demos.

The series stars Billy Campbell, Hiroyuki Sanada and Kyra Zagorsky as a group of CDC scientists who travel to an Arctic research facility to investigate a potential disease outbreak, only to find something that could spell disaster for all of mankind.

The show is executive produced by Ronald D. Moore (“Battlestar Galactica”), showrunner Steven Maeda (“Lost,” “The X-Files”), and Lynda Obst (“Contact,” “Sleepless in Seattle”). It was created by co-executive producer Cameron Porsandeh.
