Watch: Alamo Drafthouse Puts Texas Gubernatorial Candidate Greg Abbott In His Place

Greg Abbott has committed the foulest of sins: The 50th Attorney General of Texas and Republican gubernatorial candidate talked in a movie theater. In this day and age, I thought we’d grown up a little, but no. This Texan politician shows us what we are: A barbaric nation where down is up and west is triangle. What are we? How can we go on? It’s utter madness, I tell you.

I’m not the only one concerned: Alamo Drafthouse, the Austin-based cinema chain, is just as hot and bothered by Abbott and his fellow theater-talkers. That’s why it’s been doing “the right thing” and releasing public service announcements for change.

“The only thing worse than talking in a theater is a politician talking in a theater telling you to text,” Alamo Drafthouse founder and CEO Tim League said via a press release. “This isn’t about where you sit on the political debate, it’s about when you sit in a movie theater. At the Alamo Drafthouse, we believe in two things: freedom and quiet cinemas.”
