‘Documentary Now!’ Sneak Peek: Fred Armisen and Bill Hader Peddle Flawed Globes

Season 2 of “Documentary Now!” premiered Sept. 14 with parodies of an insane campaign manager in the low budget “The Bunker,” a South American heir to a chicken and rice empire in a spoof of “Jiro Dreams of Sushi,” and now a new episode based off of 1969 documentary “Salesman” by the Maysleys brothers.

The original 1969 documentary “Salesman” follows Paul, a down on his luck Bible salesman unable to meet his sales quota. As Paul faces constant rejection from potential buyers, he also faces a lack of compassion from his colleagues who are also desperate to reach their projected sales goals.

Fred Armisen and Bill Hader grip tight to the theme to sell at any cost, except in their reimagining they sell globes in a world that now enjoys the cheap cost of atlases. Sticking to their intentions to be cinematically true to the original, the aesthetics of the new episode “Globesman” is shot in black and white with a shaky camera that follows the men in suits who give sales pitches. Most of these speeches are sketchy in nature, as when Fred Armisen tries to deflect a mistake on one of his globes. Watch the exclusive clip below to see how he tries to trick one unconvinced little boy:

The new episode of “Globesman” premieres Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 10pm on IFC.
