Despite being on the air for 40 years, “Saturday Night Live” hadn’t gotten the documentary treatment until now. From director Bao Nguyen, “Live From New York!” is a sweeping survey of the sketch comedy series, exploring its bumpy history and profound influence on American culture. The film premiered to strong reviews after opening the Tribeca Film Festival on April 15.
Nguyen stopped by the Apple Store in Soho, Manhattan for one of Apple and Indiewire’s Tribeca Talks, which was moderated by Indiewire’s own Dana Harris. In it, the director discusses the challenges of converting 40 years of history into a single documentary. You can watch the whole panel discussion on iTunes here, or listen to it in podcast form here.
The film screens this Friday and Saturday as part of the Tribeca Film Festival. More information can be found here.
