‘We Lost a Great One Today’: Comedians Mourn the Loss of Harris Wittels on Twitter

Harris Wittels, a stand-up comedian, writer, producer, actor and musician who helped shape that world of comedy, passed away last night. Wittels began his writing career on “The Sarah Silverman Program” in 2007, and moved on to “Parks and Recreation,” working his way up from staff writer to executive producer. He has also made appearances on several podcasts, including “Comedy Bang Bang,” where he had a hilarious recurring segment called “Harris’ Phone Corner.” Known for his raw honesty both on stage and off, Wittels has spoken openly about his struggle with addiction.

“I feel good. I feel hopeful. I feel optimistic. I feel clear-headed. And I also feel sometimes that I want to use drugs still,” shared Wittels only three months prior. “And that’ll just be there forever and I can’t use them because I have to play the tape out in my head of where it got me the last time.”

In the wake of his death, an outpouring of love, grief and in some cases anger has occurred on Twitter, as the comedy world mourns this tremendous loss.
