New York's IFC Center is Ignoring R-Rating 'Boyhood'

Richard Linklater’s 12-years-in-the-making opus "Boyhood" is rated R in the states. Why? We’re not so sure. It’s a film that demands to be seen by the generation it depicts, meaning teenagers. New York’s IFC Center feels the same way. They just announced that they will admit "high school age patrons at its discretion."

This approach will no doubt help bolster its profits at the theater, but we stand behind it because everyone and anyone should be sure to check out Linklater’s huge achievement the way it’s meant to be seen — on the big screen.

This doesn’t mark the first time the IFC Center has ignored the MPAA‘s rating system. Just last year they admitted high schoolers to the NC-17 rated French sensation "Blue is the Warmest Color."
