One of the most acclaimed and heart-wrenching films to come out of this year’s Sundance Film Festival, “Jim: The James Foley Story” is making good on its acclaim (it won the Audience Award for U.S. Documentary) by being picked up by Gravitas Ventures. The indie film distriubter has acquired U.S. VOD and DVD rights, as well as all Canadian rights to the film.

On Thanksgiving Day 2012, American photojournalist James “Jim” Foley was kidnapped in Syria and went missing for two years before the infamous video of his public execution sent shockwaves and introduced the world to ISIS. “Jim: The James Foley Story,” directed by Foley’s close childhood friend Brian Oakes, tells the story of his life through intimate interviews with his family, friends and fellow journalists.

“Gravitas is honored to work on such a poignant and inspiring film, which depicts Jim Foley’s incredible courage and humanity amidst chaos and brutality,” said Brendan Gallagher, SVP for Gravitas Ventures, in an official statement.

“We are pleased that Gravitas will bring the film to new audiences,” added executive producer Peter Kunhardt. “They are passionate about distributing Jim Foley’s emotional story not only to Americans, but to Canadians as well. It is an excellent partnership.”

Catch “Jim: The James Foley Story” during its TV debut on HBO tomorrow, February 6.
