With Comic-Coc just around the corner, new sneak peeks at some of the most highly anticipated genre fare are dropping left and right, and today it’s the Guardians of the Galaxy‘s turn. Most of the plot details around the movie are being kept under wraps, but a new concept art image released by Entertainment Weekly does officially announce the debut of a new character: Mantis.

Played by Pom Klementieff, whose most high profile role has been in Spike Lee’s “Oldboy” remake, Mantis is the latest female badass to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and she’ll have good company in “Guardians Vol. 2” thanks to Zoe Saldana’s Gamora, Karen Gillan’s Nebula and a new female villain. While she may be able to hold her own when it comes time to battle, expect her to be the kind of social outcast that the Guardian’s respond well to.

“She has never really experienced social interaction,” executive producer Jonathan Schwartz tells EW about the character. “Everything she learns about dealing with people, she learns from the Guardians of the Galaxy, which is a very weird group to learn your social intricacies from.”

Schwartz also teases a different kind of Groot this time around. “He’s a younger Groot and a more rambunctious Groot. The question is, is he the same Groot, just smaller? Or is he a different Groot that’s sprung up from the seed of the first Groot?” Whatever Groot we get, we’re bound to love him all the same.

Disney is scheduled to release “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” in theaters on May 5, 2017.
