Back in May, rumors surfaced that Warner Bros. was contemplating developing a Harley Quinn spinoff with Margot Robbie reprising her villainess role. Now, The Hollywood Reporter announced that the actress and “Suicide Squad” helmer David Ayer are reteaming to develop an all-female DC villain film titled “Gotham City Sirens.”

Ayer is set to direct and produce, with Robbie executive producing. Geoff Johns and Jon Berg from DC Comics will also produce.

The screenplay is being written by “Tomb Raider” remake scribe Geneva Robertson-Dworet, and is based on the comic book series of the same name written by Paul Dini, with art by Guillem March. “Gotham City Sirens” features the most popular female villain characters in Gotham City, including Joker girlfriend Harley Quinn, Catwoman and Poison Ivy.

While “Suicide Squad” received generally negative reviews, Robbie was praised for her bad girl role and the movie went on to make over $745.6 million worldwide. It also looks like Warner Bros. is still developing a “Squad” sequel, as well as looking at a Deadshot spinoff, starring Will Smith.

In the meantime, “Sirens” doesn’t have a release date but the studio is fast-tracking the film.
