Unlike the other three drama acting categories, all the actresses nominated in 2014 for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series were eligible again this year. But four of them didn’t make the cut anyway, including the winner. Julianna Margulies won here last year for “The Good Wife,” and she was left off along with Lizzy Caplan (“Masters of Sex”),
Michelle Dockery (“Downton Abbey”) and Kerry
Washington (“Scandal”). Only Claire Danes (“Homeland”) and Robin Wright (“House of Cards”) return, though Elisabeth Moss (“Mad Men”) is also back after sitting last year out.
Will one of those three win? If so, they’ll have to beat out an epic trio of new competitors. There’s Viola Davis, who many thought was a lock to win at the Golden Globes and remains a hot contender for freshman sensation “How to Get Away With Murder.” Taraji P. Henson is also high on a lot of lists thanks to her show-stopping role in “Empire.” And Tatiana Maslany is finally in contention here for “Orphan Black” after a couple of controversial snubs. We could really foresee any of them of them winning.
