‘Blade Runner 2049’ Red Carpet, ‘Marshall’ World Premiere Canceled in Response to Las Vegas Shooting
Two high-profile film events aren’t happening as planned. In response to last night’s mass shooting in Las Vegas, Open Road Films has canceled tonight’s red-carpet premiere of “Marshall” at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, while Warner Brothers, Sony, and Alcon have canceled the red carpet at tomorrow night’s “Blade Runner 2049” premiere. The screening itself is said to still be taking place, according to Deadline.
Here’s the statement on “Blade Runner 2049”:
“In light of the tragic events of last night, Warner Bros. Pictures, Sony Pictures and Alcon Entertainment are cancelling the red carpet for tomorrow’s screening of ‘Blade Runner 2049.’ We join the rest of the country in sending heartfelt thoughts and prayers to all those affected by this tragedy.”
And here are Open Road’s comments on “Marshall”:
“On this day of national mourning, we have decided to cancel tonight’s scheduled red carpet premiere of ‘Marshall.’ Instead, tonight’s event will be a private screening of the film for the cast, filmmakers and invited guests. Our thoughts are with the victims of the tragedy in Las Vegas, their families and all of those affected.”
“Blade Runner 2049” hits theaters this Friday, October 6, with “Marshall” following a week later.
