Her fellowship project will focus on mobile cinema for peace building between anti-Balaka and Seleka rebels in Central African Republic (CAR). Through the fellowship, Branham will be able to expand Discover the Journey’s Mobile Cinema initiative with a greater online interface, data visualization and a physical installation mimicking the Mobile Cinema experience in Africa.
Branham most recently created the short film “They Came at Night” and the related community-based defection intervention and mobile cinema program currently underway in central Africa.

Branham, who has spent much of the last eight years living in working in Central Africa and currently lives in New York, said, “I believe and have seen how storytelling can play a critical role in building peace, even amidst the gravest of circumstances – this is an exciting threshold and I can’t wait to push this concept further to affect people’s lives and challenge the traditions of cinema.
