'Louie' Picked Up Season 5 FX

While the one-man-crew isn’t taking a year off like he did in 2013, the fifth season of “Louie” will also be its shortest. Clocking in at seven half-hour episodes, Season 5 will be about half the length of prior seasons, which were 13 episodes apiece.

“‘Louie’s’ fourth season was once again groundbreaking. Sometimes hilarious, sometimes heartbreaking — always thought provoking,” said FX Networks CEO Jon Landgraf in a statement. “The show went to narrative and cinematic places no comedy has gone before and we look forward to seeing what Louis comes up with next.”

“Louie” is currently contending for Outstanding Comedy Series, as well as Comedy Actor honors for its star. It has five total nominations and is expected to compete strongly with “Modern Family” and “Veep” for the top comedy prize.
