Sylvester Stallone To Star In Antoine Fuqua's TV Adaptation Of Omerta

Sylvester Stallone recently earned rave critical praise for his supporting role in Ryan Coogler’s “Creed” as his beloved Rocky character. He won his first Golden Globe award as well as received his this third Oscar nomination for his performance. Now, Stallone is taking another big step in his career, and this time it’s on the small screen. Deadline reports that Stallone is set to star as mob boss Raymonde Aprile in Antoine Fuqua’s TV adaptation of Mario Puzo’s final novel “Omerta.” The Weinstein Company has fully financed the series and it’s set to be presented to networks with the expectation of a full series commitment.

Stallone is best known for his performances as boxer Rocky Balboa in the “Rocky” series as well as soldier John Rambo in the “Rambo” series. For the first “Rocky,” he was the third man in history to receive two separate Oscar nominations for the same film after Charlie Chaplin and Orson Welles. Meanwhile, Antoine Fuqua’s directorial credits include “Training Day,” “The Equalizer,” and the upcoming “The Magnificent Seven,” a remake of the 1960 Western of the same name. Mario Puzo is best known for his 1969 novel “The Godfather,” which he later co-adapted into the famed three-part saga directed by Francis Ford Coppola.

A pilot script for “Omerta” has been written, and a showrunner as well as a female lead will be in place shortly.
