Brady Corbet and Neil Jordan are going to TIFF. The Toronto International Film Festival announced this morning that “Vox Lux” and “Greta” have both been added to the Special Presentations program, a North American premiere for the former and world premiere for the latter. Natalie Portman stars as a pop star alongside Jude Law in Corbet’s follow-up to “The Childhood of a Leader,” which debuts in Venice, while Chloë Grace Moretz and Isabelle Huppert headline “Greta.”

“These are two films that explore nuanced narratives with exceptional leading women,” said Kerri Craddock, TIFF’s Director of Festival Programming. “‘Greta’ and ‘Vox’ Lux both offer strong directorial visions, rich performances, and engaging stories. They complete the package of the Special Presentations programme.”

Moretz stars in Jordan’s film as a young woman who becomes friends with a widow played by Huppert; per a description from TIFF, “the older woman’s motives are gradually revealed to be sinister and the film quickly descends into an exploration of loneliness, obsession, and manipulation.” Jordan remains best known for “The Crying Game,” which won him the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and earned him a Best Director nod as well, having also helmed “Interview with the Vampire” and “Mona Lisa,” among many others.

The total number of offerings in the Special Presentations program now sits at 24 and also includes Lee Chang-dong’s “Burning,” Pawel Pawlikowski’s “Cold War,” and Barry Jenkins’ “If Beale Street Could Talk.” This year’s edition of the festival, its 43rd, begins on September 6 and ends on September 16.
