Watch: Kevin Smith Compares Watching 'Tusk' Getting Herpes

Tusk” writer/director Kevin Smith stopped by the Movies On Demand Lounge at Comic-Con, along with two of the film’s co-stars, Haley Joel Osment and Genesis Rodriguez.

Based on an episode of “Smodcast,” the podcast series Smith co-hosts with long-time producing partner Scott Mosier, “Tusk” centers on two best friends, played by Osment and Justin Long, who, not unlike Smith and Mosier, co-host a podcast. When Long’s character mysteriously disappears while out on an interview, Osment’s character teams up with his lost friend’s girlfriend, played by Rodriguez, and the two embark on a search-and-rescue operation.

While being interviewed on camera in the Movies On Demand Lounge, Smith, who has never been unafraid to speak his mind, went as far as to stipulate how he thinks audiences are going to receive his new film.

“So at the end of the day,” he said, “I can’t imagine people going, ‘I’m going to stay and watch it again,’ because it’s the kind of movie where you’re like, ‘What happened? I feel like somebody just gave me herpes or something like that.'”

“Cause it stays with you,” finished Rodriguez. Indeed, Smith — well played.

“Tusk” opens in theaters on September 19th.
