It’s possible Terrence Howard‘s wildly emotional performance at the 2015 Oscars was merely preparation for his over-the top-role in M. Night Shyamalan‘s “Wayward Pines,” a new event series coming to FOX. Shyamalan directed the pilot and produced the series.

The show stars Matt Dillon as an FBI agent who travels to the Pacific Northwest on an investigative assignment; two of his fellow agents have disappeared there. Wayward Pines, the mysterious town where he ends up, seems to be a dangerous community reminiscent of Twin Peaks, with Terrence Howard lording over the place in a cult-like fashion. “Do not try to leave. Do not discuss the past,” a sign reads. Can Dillon leave? Howard’s character has the answer there.

“Wayward Pines” features a rich cast, including Carla Gugino, Shannyn Sossamon, Reed Diamond, Tim Griffin, Juliette Lewis, Charlie Tahan, Melissa Leo and Siobhan Fallon Hogan.

The summer series debuts on May 14 on Fox.
