2018 Oscar Predictions: Best Animated Short

Vying for this year’s Best Animated Short Film are Pixar‘s “Lou” (about schoolyard bullying) and Kobe Bryant’s controversial “Dear Basketball” (the legendary Lakers’ retirement poem directed by Disney hand-drawn legend Glen Keane). They are joined by “Negative Space,” a French stop-motion work about the bond between father and son over suitcase packing; “Revolting Rhymes,” the British-German CG adaptation of Roald Dahl fairy tale poems (the third nomination for Magic Light Pictures, including “The Gruffalo”) starring Dominic West as the Big Bad Wolf; and “Garden Party,” a CG amphibian romp through a crime scene (from the French MOPA animation school).

Here are the nominated animated shorts ranked in order of likelihood to win:

Frontrunners:

“Dear Basketball” (Director: Glen Keane, Glen Keane Productions)

Contenders:
