– Tribeca played home to another big buy, with the pick up of Rob Meyer’s premiere “Little Boxes,” which sold to Netflix for about $1.5 million for worldwide streaming rights. The film stars Melanie Lynskey, Nelsan Ellis and Armani Jackson as a family who must deal with some awkward racial issues when they move to a new town. The news was first reported by Variety

– Screen Media Films has acquired the U.S. rights for Michel Gondry’s “Microbe & Gasoline.” The film follows two young friends who embark on a road trip across France in a vehicle they built themselves, and stars Ange Dargent, Theophile Baquet and Audrey Tautou. The film has been looking for an American home for quite some time, after making its debut at the 2015 New York Film Festival. Screen Media will release the film in theaters on July 1 in New York at the Landmark Sunshine Cinema and in Los Angeles at the Nuart Theatre before expanding in a traditional platform release in July and August.

– Cinema Guild has picked up all U.S. distribution rights to Mehrdad Oskouei’s lauded documentary “Starless Dreams.” The film had its world premiere at the 2016 Berlin International Film Festival, where it won the Amnesty International Prize, which it followed with the True False True Vision Award and the Full Frame Film Festival’s Reva and David Logan Grand Jury Award and Inspiration Award. The film will screen next week at Hot Docs.

– Invincible Pictures has picked up of Kevin Smith’s “Yoga Hosers” for an upcoming summer release. The film, starring Lily Rose Depp and Harley Quinn Smith, is the second installment of Smith’s True North Trilogy, which premiered at Sundance this year. The film also features Austin Butler, Tyler Posey, Ralph Garman, Jason Mewes and Johnny Depp. Smith will tour with the film during the month of June and July with select dates across the U.S. and feature a Q&A after each screening. This tour will be followed by a theatrical release on July 29.

– The Orchard has purchased North American rights for Kris Avedisian’s dark comedy “Donald Cried,” which premiered in competition at the 2016 SXSW Film Festival, followed by a showing at New Directors/New Films and was selected for the IFP labs.
