Lauren Greenfield’s 2012 Sundance Film Festival opener “The Queen of Versailles” follows the billionaire family of timeshare king David Siegel, as they struggle to stay afloat following the 2008 stock market collapse. In a family crisis of truly hyperbolic dimensions, Siegel is forced to try and sell his 90,000 square foot mansion for ludicrious sums of money.

The trailer gives a glimpse into the his family’s lavish lifestyle, and yes, their ridiculously proportioned mansion. At one point in the trailer, Siegel’s wife, Jackie, gazes around the cavernous shell of her under-construction mega-mansion, unsure if a huge walled in space is her bedroom or closet.

The film garnered Greenfield the U.S. Directing Award for Documentary Film at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, and opens in select theaters July 20 via Magnolia Pictures.
