John Oliver Dissects Clinton, Trump Scandals in Epic 20 Minute Takedown — Watch
“Last Week Tonight” host John Oliver put the current presidential election in perspective for HBO viewers Sunday by pointing out how unprecedented the stories surrounding the two candidates truly are.
Monday’s debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump could be watched by more than 100 million people, but interestingly, both candidates and their campaigns have been defined less by questions about their policies than concerns about their ethics, Oliver pointed out.
“Polls show that less than half the electorate sees either candidate as honest or trustworthy,” Oliver said, adding that if Clinton loses, she will likely “sit there motionless not speaking until she eventually dies.”
After briefly making up a fake scandal about Hillary Clinton just to test out his audience, Oliver began recapping the various scandals following both candidates, starting with Clinton.
“I do know that even talking about her scandals will irritate some of you given that her opponent is an unambiguously racist scarecrow stuffed with scrunched up copies of ‘Juggs’ magazine, and that’s a fair point, but not being as bad as Donald Trump is a low bar to clear.” He then pointed out that despite Clinton being cleared of any wrongdoing numerous times, many rational people are still worried about how the public perception of her email server scandal and The Clinton Foundation’s practices could hurt her in the election.
