The IFC Center will play host to classic films exclusively on 35mm, showcasing the increasing rarity and emotive appeal of the medium, as opposed to digital film consumption. The first three installments in the series are Woody Allen‘s “The Purple Rose of Cairo” (September 24), Nicholas Roeg’s “Don’t Look Now” (October 6) and Joan Micklin Silver’s “Chilly Scenes of Winter” (November 12), with more set to be announced later this fall.

September’s airing of the romantic comedy fantasy “The Purple Rose of Cairo” will be a tribute to the late cinematographer Gordon Willis, with a post-viewing discussion lead by Willis’ longtime assistant, cameraman Douglas C. Hart.

The horror thriller “Don’t Look Now” will set the stage for October’s Halloween, the film itself a notable work in the genre of British horror. Last but not least, “Chilly Scenes of Winter” focuses on the romance between a civil servant and a married woman, and will be followed by another post-viewing talk with Griffin Dunne, a co-star and producer of the film.
