On Sunday morning, filmmaker Michael Moore went on CNN‘s “State of the Union” show to discuss the aftermath of the election with Jake Tapper. First, Moore said that FBI director James Comey was partially to blame for Clinton’s loss and suggested that President Obama appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Comey’s actions. Moore then went on to criticize the “benign neglect” of the Democratic Party towards working class people and their needs, especially in regards to his home state of Michigan. Then, Tapper played a recent tape of Oprah saying that the image of Obama and Trump in the White House gave her hope and asked for Moore’s response. He said that the Democrats would have been better off with her as their presidential candidate.

“Frankly, the Democrats would have been better off if they ran Oprah or Tom Hanks,” he said. “Why don’t we run beloved people? We have so many of them. The Republicans do this. They ran Reagan and The Terminator [Arnold Schwarzenegger] and other people. Why don’t we run somebody that the American people love, that they’re really drawn to? Why don’t Democrats do that?”

Moore recently premiered his latest film “Michael Moore in TrumpLand,” a filmed one-man show he performed in Wilmington, Ohio, at the IFC Center in New York on October 18. It’s available on iTunes and Amazon Prime and is playing in select theaters around the country.
