‘American Werewolf in London’ Remake: Max Landis Writing and Directing New Vision of his Father’s Classic Film

'American Werewolf in London' Remake: Max Landis Writing and Directing

In news that’s sure to be well received by all and not the least bit controversial, Max Landis is set to write and direct the remake of “An American Werewolf in London” — a film originally made by his father John. That classic tale of lycanthropy came out a full 35 years ago, four years before young Max was even born.

Landis has one previous credit as director, last year’s “Me Him Her”; he’s best known as the screenwriter of such films as “Chronicle,” “American Ultra” and “Victor Frankenstein.” He’s also a noted fan of professional wrestling, and his 24-minute primer “Wrestling Isn’t Wrestling” has racked up nearly 2.5 million views on YouTube.

“An American Werewolf in London” has long been a favorite among horror/comedy fans, and its memorable visual effects — including and especially a famous transformation scene — earning Rick Baker the first-ever Academy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Makeup. Robert Kirkman and David Albert of “The Walking Dead” fame will produce the remake for Universal.
