Screen Media Films has announced the acquisition of “Ride,”  Helen Hunt‘s second directorial feature. Hunt’s first directorial debut, “Then She Found Me,” sold at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2007.
Here’s the synopsis of “Ride,” courtesy of Screen Media: “When an editor from The New Yorker magazine (Hunt) follows her son (Brenton Thwaites) to L.A. after he drops out of college to surf and find himself, she ends up being the one thrust into a sea change of self-discovery.”
The film also co-stars Luke Wilson, as a surf instructor with whom Hunt’s character begins a relationship, and David Zayas as a limo driver that she befriends.
“I made this movie for mothers, sons, fathers, daughters, surfers and people who fall apart and come back together,” said Hunt.
“Professionally, the opportunity to work with Helen and her producing team was something we absolutely wanted to make happen,” said Screen Media President Suzanne Blech. “Personally, I intimately identified with the mother’s journey in ‘Ride’ and hope audiences will associate with Helen’s vision as much as I did.”
Screen Media plans a theatrical release in the second quarter of 2015.
