Mondo has done it again.

Nearly a month after debuting a haunting poster for Joshua Oppenheimer’s acclaimed “The Look of Silence,” Mondo has returned with UK-based illustrator Marc Aspinall for an eye-catching artwork devoted to Craig Zobel’s “Z For Zachariah.” The psychological thriller, which opens in theaters and VOD this Friday, centers around a young woman (Margot Robbie) whose life in apocalyptic isolation gets thrown into turmoil when two strangers (Chiwetel Ejiofor and Chris Pine) arrive at her home.

Aspinall, whose work has appeared in The New Yorker, Wired, Rolling Stone and The Financial Times, among others, puts the power struggle between the three leads front and center in the poster below, using the film’s visual hooks and broad themes to create a one-of-a-kind poster.

“The variety of themes [in the film] offered a great launch-pad: there’s human drama, environmental struggles, religion and of course the post-apocalyptic undertone that drives the protagonists forward in their strife,” said Aspinall of creating the image. “From here, it’s a case of finding the arrangement and general approach that will be the final image. I looked to doing a collage style in a similar vein to Robert McGinnis and Bob Peak’s 60s work. Then an array of singular images: snapshots of fictional scenes looking at symbols and composition; using props that are integral to the film to create new imagery; all hoping to convey the movie, without of course lifting directly from the screen.”

The final image is a “a visual interpretation of the film as a whole,” as the artist puts it. Take a look at the exclusive Mondo image below.
