It’s been a long road for “Lost River” since its anticipated Cannes premiere in May of last year.

The directorial debut of Oscar-nominated Ryan Gosling was met with as much buzz as it was backlash, but as evidenced by the fanfare surrounding the film’s North American debut at SXSW, this is still one film moviegoers are eager to check out.

A macabre and fantastical film set against the backdrop of a fading city, “Lost River” centers on an impoverished, struggling mother (Christina Hendricks of “Mad Men” fame) who is immersed in a dangerous mystery after her teenage son finds a secret road that leads to an underwater town.

Coming Soon recently sat down with Gosling as well as co-stars Saoirse Ronan and Iain De Caestecker, and talked everything from vampires to rats to nightmares. Given the ambitious undertaking for Gosling that was “Lost River,” the topics discussed shouldn’t surprise too much. But it remains a great foray into what went into this artistically rigorous film.
