In “Wild,” Witherspoon plays Strayed, who, after being devastated by her mother’s death, going through a divorce, and fighting a heroin addiction, heads out alone on a 1,100 mile hike along the Pacific Crest Trail. Anyone who has read Strayed’s writing (from “Wild,” to “Tiny, Beautiful Things,” to her advice column on The Rumpus) knows that she’s all about letting go of inner demons and discovering your true self, even if that means heading out alone on a treacherous path. Witherspoon seems to embody Strayed’s story beautifully, and the awards banter is about to begin as soon as this trailer makes the rounds.
“Wild” was directed by “Dallas Buyers Club” director Jean-Marc Vallee, with a script from Nick Hornby. It co-stars Gaby Hoffmann, Laura Dern, Michiel Huisman, Charles Baker, Kevin Rankin and Thomas Sadoski, and hits theaters on December 5. Check out the trailer below:
