Charlize Theron‘s Furiosa was such a vital part of “Mad Max: Fury Road” that many considered her the film’s actual protagonist. This naturally led to speculation about a new installment in the series centering around her, rather than Tom Hardy’s Max, and Australia’s Herald Sun newspaper is now reporting that the supposed prequel is already in development.

A few details cast doubt on the report, namely that director George Miller will once again be returning to the helm of his post-apocalyptic franchise; the Aussie filmmaker has stated in interviews that, should he direct another “Mad Max” movie, it won’t be until he’s done something else first. The Herald Sun is saying that the untitled prequel “will be filmed in and around Broken Hill,” an area in New South Wales, and that shooting “could start as soon as later this year…The script is said to focus on the backstory of Furiosa, played by Oscar winner CHARLIZE THERON.”

“Mad Max: Fury Road,” which made $378 million worldwide, was arguably even more successful with critics and awards bodies than it was with audiences — Miller’s fourth entry in his iconic series was nominated for 10 Oscars (including Best Picture and Director; it won six technical awards).
