‘Jessica Jones’ Season 2: Female Directors Will Helm Every New Episode
“Marvel’s Jessica Jones” premiered last November on Netflix to critical praise, becoming one of the more well-received comic book series. Starring Krysten Ritter in the title role, the second season promises to be better than the first and feature even more girl power behind the camera.
Per Variety TV critic Maureen Ryan, showrunner Melissa Rosenberg confirmed that all 13 episodes of Season 2 will be directed by women. Rosenberg made the announcement during the Transform Hollywood panel on Friday night. No other specific details about who the directors would be were revealed.
Back in June, Ritter told IndieWire about how she loves working with female showrunners and being surrounded by strong, powerful women.
“I love working with women because I’ve always been a girl’s girl. I’ve always gravitated towards amazing, strong, powerful women because I want to pick their brain and have them around me,” she explained. “I like to be vulnerable and be raw, and I just feel more comfortable in those conversations with women. I’m especially glad ‘Jessica’ has a female showrunner. She’s not informed by gender. And Melissa has such integrity about the character and being a woman. It could have gone either way.”
The first season featured nine directors, three of them female: S. J. Clarkson, Rosemary Rodriguez and Uta Briesewitz. Season 2 is rumored to start filming after the first season of “The Defenders,” which will also feature Ritter. Rosenberg previously stated that the new season will address Jessica’s trauma with what happened at the end of the last episodes and also focus more on the supporting characters.
